The H.C.S.C. Foundation was created to assist retired JCPenney associates who have fallen on hard times.
In 1959 the H.C.S.C. Club held its first national convention in Denver in honor of Mr. Penney’s 84th birthday. During the convention it was noted that there were many retired associates who were possibly in need of financial assistance. It was decided that a foundation would be established to provide assistance to qualified associates.
Mr. Penney made a sizable contribution and, over the years, H.C.S.C. Club members have also been generous with their contributions.
The Foundation is currently providing assistance to more than 80 associates and has provided more than $8.0 million to qualified associates in need.
HOW IT WORKS
The Foundation Board members are retired associates who volunteer their time. When the Foundation receives a request for help, the Board members review the applications and then one volunteers to follow up with the applicant. The recipients and their needs are reviewed annually by Board members.
Applicants for assistance should be retired associates of JCPenney or their spouse (if the associate is deceased), be at least 60 years of age, and have at least 20 years of service with the Company.
Most assistance is given to associates who currently have a negative cash flow and are very much in need of assistance in meeting their basic needs. Some are in nursing homes and require extended care.
The application for assistance can be found at www.HCSCFoundation.com.
